When introducing the first protease inhibitor indicated for individuals HIV positive or diagnosed with AIDS, Abbott Laboratories needed a distinctive name that would appeal to both doctors and patients. Combining the recognizable morphemes nor and vir, we created the memorable name Norvir for this critical, life-saving drug.
